Phoenix, March 7, 2019 – The Metro Phoenix Export Alliance (MPEXA), an affiliate of the Partnership for Economic Innovation (PEI), announced a call for applications for the third installment of the Export Explore program, which provides education and awards grants to small and medium size businesses in metro Phoenix to export their goods and services and expand their global footprint.
The announcement was made at Phoenix Startup Week, an annual event that draws entrepreneurs and community leaders from all corners of the metro Phoenix region to “support and build Phoenix into a diverse entrepreneurial hub where innovation and ideas can thrive.”
As part of this year’s Startup Week agenda, an international track was dedicated to export promotion and improving the overall global competitiveness of Phoenix. The Metro Phoenix Export Alliance hosted a panel, “Breaking Down Business Borders: An Introduction to Exporting,” where trade specialists and export companies discussed the benefits of exporting, what regional resources exist for small and medium sized enterprises to begin exporting, and best global business practices.
“Only 4% of all small and medium sized enterprises in Greater Phoenix currently export,” said Ruth Soberanes, Director of Trade and Investment at the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. “It is our hope we will see these numbers rise, but we know while the potential is immense with exporting, the challenges can also be great for companies scrapped for time and resources. That is why we are working cohesively as a region to support our local companies through programing such as the Export Explore program.”
The panel was moderated by Ruth Soberanes, Director, Trade & Investment, Greater Phoenix Economic Council and included panelists Molly Ho, Sr. International Trade Specialist, U.S. Commercial Service Phoenix, Arizona; Vicki Mayo, CEO, The TouchPoint Solution, Kevin O’Shea, Vice President, International Trade, Arizona Commerce Authority, and Julie Moeller, Vice President, Global Sales Operations & Customer Service, Zero Mass Water.
